Kenyan authorities have made a shocking discovery of 12 additional bodies in the Shakahola forest nearly three months after the initial victims of what has been referred to as the “Shakahola forest massacre” were found. The police believe that most of the bodies uncovered are those of followers of the Good News International Church. This church was founded by self-proclaimed pastor Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, who encouraged fasting until death as a means to “meet Jesus”.
The former taxi driver, Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, has been in custody since April 14 and will soon be facing charges, including “terrorism”. Additionally, sixteen other individuals have been accused of being part of a group of “henchmen”. Their alleged role was to ensure that no follower broke their fast or managed to escape from the forest, which is situated near the coastal town of Malindi.
