Kenyan Double Olympic Champion Eliud Kipchoge to Participate in Tokyo Marathon

Eliud Kipchoge, the double Olympic champion from Kenya, is set to participate in the Tokyo Marathon scheduled for March 3rd, 2024. Kipchoge, one of the sport’s all-time greats, aims to build on his remarkable achievements, including winning the men’s marathon at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Kipchoge’s connection with Japan is significant, having secured his Olympic gold medal and set the course record in the Tokyo Marathon. The 39-year-old athlete expressed his excitement about returning to Japan, describing it as the perfect preparation for his goal to win a third consecutive Olympic title in Paris next summer.

Dutch runner Sifan Hassan, the Olympic champion in 5,000m and 10,000m, will also make her debut at the Tokyo Marathon. Hassan made headlines in the marathon world by winning in London and Chicago in 2023.

The Tokyo Marathon is expected to feature top athletes, and Kipchoge’s participation adds to the anticipation surrounding the event.
