Following the seizure of two weapons and rolls of marijuana at a property connected to him in western Nakuru county, Kenyan police claim they are looking for Maina Njenga, the former leader of the illegal Mungiki militia.

The materials were found after a raid that investigators carried out at Ngomongo village last week, according to a statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday.

According to the police, eight alleged adherents of the Mungiki sect were detained during the raid.

On Monday, Njenga was supposed to appear at the Nakuru police headquarters, but he didn’t and instead went into hiding, according to local media.

The eight people who were arrested, according to Corporal Eliud Misoi, a detective based in Nakuru, are thought to be members of an organized criminal group.

This comes after Njenga’s properties in central Laikipia county and Nairobi‘s capital city were purportedly raided by security personnel for an unspecified cause a few weeks ago.

A covert group called the Mungiki was outlawed in 2002 after being charged with using violence.
