A Kenyan man, Shadrack Mbao, is mourning his wife, three children, brother and two nieces who were killed in the horrific road accident involving five vehicles at the Nairobi-Mombasa highway near Salama, in Kenya.
The accident happened on Monday, April 1 at 8:30 pm after the matatu transporting the passengers had a head-on collision with an oncoming lorry.
Victims of the crash were buried on Tuesday, April 16 at Karirikania Farm in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County.
The victims of the crash included Mbao’s elder brother, Francis Macharia, aged 61, his wife, Irine Wangombe, aged 37, their daughters, Joyce Wairimu and Joyce Muthoni, and their son, Lemy Macharia, aged 12.
Mbao’s nieces, Esther Nyambura, aged 12, and Esther Wanjiru Macharia, a Grade Four pupil, also lost their lives in the tragic accident.
Grief hung heavily on the faces of the family as the remains of the seven family members were committed to mother earth yesterday.
Mbao’s tribute was expressed by his elder sister Ms. Miriam Njeri Macharia, a prison warden at Nakuru Main Prison.
In the tribute, the grief-stricken husband expressed the difficulty of accepting the sudden loss of his loved ones, especially without the opportunity to say a final goodbye.
He mourned the tragic loss of his wife of 14 years, describing her as his main source of happiness and a pillar of support.
“Your death has made me reflect and put things in perception, I am still in shock. She was my companion, wife and the mother of my children. Since you have left this world together with our children words cannot describe the emptiness inside me, Mr Mbao eulogised his wife.
“I get so lost without you and children. I wish to tell myself that you will be back someday to be with me again. I miss millions of things and every detail of who you are. I will truly miss you,” the heartfelt tribute read.
Mr. Edward Gitonga, chairman of the Speed Governors and Roads Safety Association, who was also present at the funeral, urged the government to step up measures to reduce the increasing number of road accidents in the country.
He expressed concern over the lack of thorough vehicle inspections, which according to him, was responsible for the frequent road misfortunes.
