Kenyan Police Arrest High School Teacher over Death of Grandmother

High School Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Killing Grandmother in Busia

A shocking incident has taken place in Kisoko, Nambale sub-county, where a high school teacher was arrested for allegedly murdering his 96-year-old grandmother. The 25-year-old man reportedly attacked his grandmother with a knife while she was in the kitchen.

The Nambale sub-county police commander, George Ongosi, confirmed the distressing event and stated that the suspect had been taken into custody. He was promptly booked and detained at the Busia police station.

According to a relative, the teacher had been receiving treatment at a mental hospital in Kakamega. The same relative mentioned that the teacher had postponed his journey to Kakamega for a routine check-up by a week.

After committing the stabbing, the teacher purportedly locked the kitchen door to restrict access. It was only when a neighbour threatened to break the door that he relented and opened it.

The suspect was apprehended by relatives and neighbours who promptly tied him to a tree trunk. They then alerted the police officers from the Nambale police station, who arrived at the scene and took him into custody. A neighbour revealed that after killing his grandmother, the suspect also threatened to harm another relative before being captured and restrained.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been transferred to the mortuary at the Busia County Teaching and Referral Hospital, awaiting further investigation and procedures.
