Bungoma Police seized a kind of narcotics called Bhang along the Malaba-Eldoret Highway.

The bags of narcotics seized on Monday were in the region of Sh15m ($3,995).

Webuye East sub-county Police chief, Martha Ngetich said her officers held ten bags of bhang being transported in a container sized 20 feet along the highway. Their operation was a result of a tip off from the public.

Driver of the container, Mutuku Kamuya was also arrested and has been giving the Police tips on how to scuttle the operations of other movers.

Drug abuse in Kenya has been rife, as political thugs are believed to be the major users of bang, a less potent cannabinoid, and other narcotics.

The Police said the drugs were being transported from Tororo, Uganda and were headed for Mombasa.

We received a tip off about a truck that was ferrying narcotic drugs along the Bungoma -Webuye Road. Our team followed the truck and with the assistance of officers from Webuye Police Station manning the roadblock, led by Cpl Fred Ngome, they managed to intercept it at Webuye near Pan Paper mills, “said Ms Ngetich.

Ngetich said each bag contained 550kg of the hard drug.

“We have managed to arrest the driver who is the key suspect and he has given us leads that will enable us arrest the people behind this haul of drugs. We believe the drugs are from Uganda,” said Ms Ngetich.

She said the truck carrying the drugs may have gone all the way without being held because it never looked like it carried anything suspicious.
