Kenyan President William Ruto in a national address on Tuesday, stated that the ongoing protests against the Finance Bill 2024 were deliberately planned to disrupt the country’s peace and stability.

Ruto praised security officers for their efforts in defending Kenya and its citizens.

He directed all national security agencies to prevent any criminal attempts to undermine the nation’s security, and warned those planning, financing, and supporting the violence.

The president assured Kenyans of a full and swift response to the day’s chaotic events.

“I thank our security officers who were on duty today for applying themselves to the best of their abilities in the defence of Kenya and its people.

“I have directed all organs of our national security to thwart any attempt by criminals to undermine the security and stability of Kenya.

“I hereby put on notice the planners, financiers, orchestrators and abetters of violence and anarchy.

“I assure Kenyans that we shall provide a full, effective and expeditious response to today’s treasonous events,” he said.

Meanwhile, former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged President Ruto and all elected leaders to embrace dialogue to resolve the standoff over the Finance Bill 2024. He condemned the violence and appealed for calm and restraint from all parties involved.
