Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has formally assumed the role of deputy party leader of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
This change follows a decision made by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) on Monday, as Kindiki takes over from the impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The decision was announced after UDA Secretary-General Omar Hassan stated that the party’s rules designate the deputy president as the deputy party leader.
In a development that further distances the disgraced former deputy president, the UDA party has removed Gachagua’s name from the party leadership after weeks of ongoing court challenges regarding his impeachment.
