High Chief Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin is set to become the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan after the kingmakers unanimously ratified his appointment.
His name will now be forwarded to the Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, for approval.
The Otun Olubadan and former governor of Oyo State, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, had earlier scheduled the meeting for Thursday, but was moved to Friday because of the Eid-el-Fitri public holidays.
The meeting now puts to an end the controversies surrounding the nomination of Oba Olakulehin, after the demise of the previous king, Oba Lekan Balogun on March 14, 2024.
The Otun Balogun, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola who is traditionally empowered to nominate the new Olubadan was however conspicuously absent.
Oba Ajibola, had declared that Oba Olakulehin was not physically fit to occupy the office.
However, Ladoja, speaking to journalists at his residence on Wednesday, debunked Ajibola’s claim and threatened to transfer his power of nomination to whoever was next in line to him.
The new Olubadan was eventually nominated by the Osi Balogun, Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe in the absence of the Otun Balogun.
