Two people were killed and 21 more injured in a knife attack on Tuesday in China. According to authorities, the attack happened in a hospital in the southwest province of Yunnan.
The incident occurred at Zhenxiong County People’s Hospital and was described as a “violent incident” by state media sources.
As stated by Guizhou Television, a suspect had been taken into custody. A witness told Red Star News that he barely avoided the attack and that doctors were among the casualties. According to a Red Star social media post, the witness’s footage showed people who were bleeding and had fallen to the ground.
China has banned the possession of firearms but the country has witnessed a spate of knife violence in recent years.
Two people were killed and seven others injured in August after a man with a case of mental illness stabbed people with a knife in Yunnan.
In July last year, six people, including three children, were murdered in a playschool stabbing case in south-eastern Guangdong province.
