The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, signed several bills into law at the Executive Chambers of the Kogi State Government House on Thursday.
After signing the bills, Governor Ododo praised the State House of Assembly for their dedication and called the bills “people-oriented”.
One of the new laws, the Anti-Corruption Agency Law, aims to strengthen the state’s ability to prevent and prosecute corruption cases.
Governor Ododo emphasised his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption, stating the agency now has the power to effectively tackle corrupt practices.
“We have given legal teeth to the Agency to be able to bite corruption. This is a clear statement by my administration that we will attack corrupt practices and make it impossible for corruption to thrive.
“All lovers of development will frown at corruption. We won’t allow corrupt practices. I will give all necessary support to the agency to perform its duties judiciously”, he said.
He also credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for policies allowing states to improve electricity generation and distribution, which he believes will help resolve Nigeria’s power challenges.
Regarding education, Ododo highlighted the Kogi State Scholarship Law, designed to assist financially disadvantaged students in achieving their educational goals. He reaffirmed his administration’s focus on education, considering it crucial for development.
The Governor concluded by commending President Tinubu’s efforts in implementing the Students Loan Scheme, expressing confidence in Nigeria’s future prosperity under his leadership.
The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, also affirmed the Assembly’s commitment to passing laws that contribute to the state’s progress.
