Kremlin Denies Russia’s Role In Global Food Crisis

As African Union leaders meet Russian President, Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin has said Russia will not accept blame for the global food crisis.

Chairman of the African Union, Macky Sall and  Faki Mahamat, Chairman of the AU Commission met the Russian President on Friday to discuss the mitigation of the effects of food crisis in Africa.

Africa has been hard hit by a global food inflation believed to be caused by the ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia.

The AU leaders met Putin in southwestern Russian city, Sochi in a meeting televised by the state television.

In the war which has now lasted at least 100 days, Russia has been accused of blocking the Ukrainian coastlines and achieving total control of its ports in the Black Sea.

“With a high degree of probability and confidence, I can assume that the president will give exhaustive explanations of his vision of the situation with Ukrainian grain,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Sochi.

“The president will tell our African friends the real state of affairs,”

.“He will explain once again what is happening there, who has mined the ports, what is needed for grain to go, that no one on the Russian side is blocking these ports.”

African food exports have been affected by the war with resultant increments in the price of food commodities.
