A few days after Cooper Kruah’s attendance at an opposition gathering, Liberia‘s President George Weah fired him.
According to reports, Kruah attended the opposition Unity Party’s campaign gathering last Friday, where it announced its vice presidential candidate ahead of the general elections in October.
Senior members of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) party were incensed by the action and demanded that the minister be removed from office.
Worlea-Saywah Dunah, a seasoned public worker, has been proposed by President Weah as his replacement. His candidacy, which was made public on Monday night, is awaiting senate ratification.
The incumbent will likely face stiff competition in the elections from Joseph Boaka of the Unity Party and Alexander Cummings of the Collaborating Political Parties.
