In a bold political shift, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former Governor of Kano State, has welcomed an impressive wave of new supporters—1,230 former members of the All Progressives Congress (APC)—into the NNPP fold.
These defectors, drawn from Albasu and Sumaila Local Government Areas within the Kano South Senatorial District, were previously loyalists of the Waraka political bloc led by Senator Kawu Sumaila.
Their defection was officially announced at a vibrant political event on Sunday, according to Sanusi Bature, Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor. The gathering, packed with key NNPP stakeholders, served as the backdrop for Kwankwaso’s reaffirmation of his party’s guiding principle: a firm dedication to issue-driven politics. He emphasised that this approach is what sets the NNPP apart in Nigeria’s often turbulent political landscape.

“I am always happy to receive people who believe in our movement, not because of financial incentives, but because of our collective vision for a better Nigeria. This is politics of ideology, not politics of the highest bidder.”
Representing the returning members, Jamilu Zamba and Maryam Romo expressed their renewed allegiance to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), lauding Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for his distinctive and principled leadership.
They revealed that their decision to return to the NNPP was driven by Kwankwaso’s unwavering integrity, his steadfast political consistency, and his deep-rooted commitment to grassroots development—qualities they described as rare in today’s political arena.
“We have realised that this is where our political future lies,” said Zamba.
