The Kwara State Government has revoked all 2024 signage and billboard licences across the state with immediate effect, warning that enforcement actions for removal will commence next week.
This development follows an earlier announcement suspending billboard licences statewide. The directive was issued in a statement from the office of Bolanle Olukoju, Chairperson of the Kwara State Taskforce Committee on Illegal Billboards and Signages and Commissioner for Communications.
According to the statement, the revocation is aimed at clearing unauthorized and improperly installed billboards, posters, and light pole banners, particularly in Ilorin and other urban areas. The initiative is part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s Urban Renewal Programme, designed to modernize and enhance the state’s visual appeal.

The government also confirmed that new signage and billboard registrations, as well as renewals, will be on hold until further notice.
“This temporary measure will allow the state to finalize a new regulatory framework for outdoor advertising,” the statement noted.
Furthermore, the statement reiterated that authorities have already begun identifying billboards and urged owners of unauthorized structures to remove them immediately. It warned that the task force is actively assessing non-compliant installations and will begin enforcement next week.
