The Chairman of the fundraising team for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation, Aisha Yesufu has announced that they received a total of N596,000,000 in donations from party supporters, Obidient movements, and Nigerians worldwide.

Yesufu made this disclosure at a press conference held in Abuja.

The announcement comes in the wake of an internal crisis and corruption allegations within the opposition party.

A breakdown of the campaign funds revealed that N744.5 million was spent on litigations by the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following his loss in the 2023 presidential election.

Yesufu stressed the need for transparency, stating that donations were received through four financial institutions, including Zenith and Heritage Banks, along with N800 million from the candidate himself.

The Chairman also disclosed that campaign strategies focused on supporting Peter Obi and Datti Ahmed include media campaigns that reached over 11 million people through radio stations, community outreach and social media.

However, concerns were raised about the non-payment of polling unit agents, which Yesufu clarified, stating that N324 million was used for their mobilisation. She also expressed regret over the inability to utilise television adverts due to financial constraints.

In a series of related events, Mr. Peter Obi called for an investigation into corruption allegations and urged the party to engage a reputable firm to audit its accounts. This follows allegations of misappropriation of N3.5 billion raised from the sale of nomination forms and fundraising activities for the 2023 general election by the LP National Chairman, Julius Abure.

The crisis escalated when the party imposed a six-month ban on the National Treasurer, Oluchi Opara, for failing to appear before an investigative panel set up by the National Working Committee (NWC).
