Lagos Government Partners Funke Akindele on New Projects

Renowned Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele is collaborating with the Lagos State Government for two exciting ventures: a blockbuster movie and an electrifying reality TV show.

During a special meeting with Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, on Thursday, May 9, 2024, Akindele expressed her eagerness to collaborate on projects aimed at discovering and nurturing fresh talents in the entertainment industry.

“I am very aware of the contribution of the State Government to the creative sector. Since our aim and objective of developing the industry are the same I thought it would be great to collaborate with the Lagos State Government on two projects aimed at discovering and developing new talents who will be mentored and assisted to climb the ladder of success and take over as shining stars of the industry in future,” Akindele stated.

Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka highlighted the state’s commitment to supporting artists and filmmakers. She revealed that the government had already allocated substantial grants to filmmakers, with plans to double the funds in the coming year.

Moreover, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture is actively involved in various initiatives to empower aspiring filmmakers. Collaborations with institutions like EbonyLife Academy, Africa Movie Academy, and Gidi Creative Centre provide invaluable training and resources to budding talents.

Akindele expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work with the Lagos State Government. In a post shared on Wednesday, May 15, she thanked Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka and other ministry officials for their warm reception and discussed potential partnerships between the government and her production company, Funke Akindele Network Limited.

“It was such an honour to meet with the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture for Lagos State, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, and other executives of the Ministry on project collaborations between the Lagos State Government and Funke Akindele Network Limited! We are grateful for this amazing opportunity and we look forward to maximizing the Culture, Tourism and Media sectors of Lagos State,” Akindele expressed.

Akindele’s upcoming projects, “Finding Me” and “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” are set to captivate audiences worldwide. Produced under her banner, Funke Akindele Network (FAAN), these ventures promise to showcase her remarkable storytelling prowess and cinematic vision.
