The Lagos State Government (LASG) has shut down multiple businesses in the Ikorodu area to address noise, air pollution, and other environmental violations.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, said in a statement on X.com on Friday that this move came after a recent comprehensive enforcement operation in major areas of the state, including Agric, Ibeshe, and Ikorodu.
Despite prior warnings, several establishments, including hotels, bars, gas filling stations, poultry farms, and lounges, continued to violate the directives of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA).
“As a result, these establishments have been temporarily shut down to ensure compliance with environmental regulations,” he wrote, naming the affected businesses as Victory Hotel, Wendy Bar, Moore Gas Plant, Provider Farm and Poultry, Cloud 24, Little Palace Hotel, City Groove Lounge and Bar, Destiny Castle and B.S. Gold Warehouse.
He said, “LASEPA emphasised the necessity for businesses to adhere to environmental regulations, reaffirming its commitment to creating a sustainable and harmonious environment for the citizens of Lagos.
“With repeated warnings issued to businesses across the state, LASEPA remains resolute in its commitment to rigorously enforcing the state environmental laws, ensuring compliance and achieving a clean and sustainable environment befitting Lagos State’s status as the nation’s Centre of Excellence.”
