The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has says the state is currently building the largest logistics hub in sub-saharan Africa.
Sanwo-Olu made the statement when he addressed Lagosians during the media parle on economic hardship on Thursday.
According to the governor, the food hub would help ensure food availability and prevent shortage and price hikes.
He stated that the hub will be the receiver of large food produce and products, from which they would be conveyed to Lagos residents.
“Outside of this meeting, I’ll show you pictures of where this construction is. All the verticals are out already. All the massive warehouses that we’re building there have all been roofed, Governor Sanwo-Olu said.
“The state government is planning to build a cold, dry storage facility that can help push produce and products to our citizens, using the hub as a receiver of large produce.”
The governor said the hub would also play the role of an aggregator, by having trading facilities to ensure that food produce coming from other states are received accordingly.
Sanwo-Olu said the logistics facility will be ready at the end of the year and expressed gratitude that the construction began two years ago.
