In a decisive step towards realising its smart city vision and enhancing public safety, the Lagos State Government has launched a 24-hour digitised traffic enforcement system.
The announcement was made during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held in Alausa, where officials described the initiative as a major milestone in Lagos’s push to harness technology for improved security, streamlined business operations, and sustained economic growth.
Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Olatubosun Alake, highlighted Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s continued commitment to building a tech-driven ecosystem that creates jobs, boosts Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and strengthens the state’s digital infrastructure.
According to Mr Alake, the traffic system will be rolled out in phases, involving the strategic placement of intelligent video surveillance across the state. This three-tiered approach is designed to ensure effective traffic regulation while supporting wider public safety objectives.

“A truly digital city requires a strong link between physical and digital infrastructure,” he said.
He pointed to the Metrofibre Project, which aims to lay 6,000km of optic fibre and ducts across Lagos, as vital to expanding internet coverage and enhancing connectivity.
The commissioner also stressed the importance of building enterprise architecture to overhaul the state’s data systems, a move intended to simplify governance and foster stronger collaboration with the private sector.
Reaffirming the state’s dedication to e-Governance, he noted ongoing improvements to platforms such as the Lagos State Government (LASG) website, the ICT Request Portal, and the Oracle system.
Mr Alake further announced the upcoming launch of the Lagos State Digital Services Platform — a centralised digital portal designed to give residents easy access to government services and information.
Looking ahead, Lagos plans to roll out a comprehensive AI adoption strategy. This will include AI-powered chatbots, integration of artificial intelligence into public services, and official guidelines to ensure responsible and ethical AI use across the state.
On cybersecurity, the commissioner revealed that Lagos successfully prevented two significant data breach attempts in the past year. He also noted that 109 certified Data Protection Officers have now been deployed across state ministries and agencies, reinforcing Lagos’s status as a national leader in data compliance.
“This government’s digital transformation journey is not just about efficiency. It is about safety, economic empowerment, and improving the daily lives of every Lagosian,” Alake affirmed.
