An unidentified bus driver on Wednesday died in a fatal crash involving his vehicle and a Bus Rapid Transit vehicle on the Oworonshoki Expressway in Lagos. However, in a sad turn of events, some hoodlums in the area set ablaze on the bus belonging to the Lagos State Bus Service Limited. The commercial bus was heading to the Ojodu Berger area of the state from Lagos Island when the fatal crash happened around 8 am. According to eyewitnesses, the commercial bus was at a high speed when it lost control on the Ifako Bridge and collided with the BRT. The bus somersaulted twice, and the driver died on the spot with seven passengers injured in the crash. The accident attracted the attention of commuters who watched helplessly as hoodlums vandalised the BRT bus and set it ablaze.
The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, stated that other emergency responders, including Traffic Police Officers, supported LASTMA officials at the accident scene. Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager of LASTMA, warned members of the public, especially street urchins, not to take laws into their hands at any accident scene but to allow appropriate authorities to do the needful.
