A road accident involving a commercial long bus, known locally as ‘Molue’, occurred on Friday, January 3, along the Ahmadiyya to Abule-Egba route in Lagos State.
The crash resulted in eight passengers being injured, while others managed to escape by jumping out of the bus’s windows.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment.
Among the injured were five men and three women, including the driver, who suffered a fractured left arm.
According to LASTMA, the accident happened when the bus, with registration number KTU 801 XM, lost control due to excessive speed.
The driver attempted to avoid colliding with another commercial vehicle and pedestrians at a bus stop by swerving sharply. This action caused the bus to crash into the median on the expressway and overturn.
LASTMA emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and carried out a rescue operation.
The injured passengers were handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) medical staff and taken to the General Hospital at Ile-Epo for treatment.
To clear the overturned bus and restore traffic flow, LASTMA officials worked alongside officers from the Meiran Police Division, who helped maintain order during the operation.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his concern for the victims and wished them a swift recovery. He also urged motorists to follow traffic regulations, especially speed limits, to help prevent similar accidents in the future.
