Lagos, Oyo Civil Servants Get December Salary Increments, Bonuses

Civil servants in Lagos and Ogun states will receive December salary increments and wage bonuses.

This was disclosed by the governors of both states, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Both governors are the only ones to have announced December salary increments across the 37 states of the federation.

Sanwo-Olu approved payment of wage award and 50% of basic salary as a December bonus for all civil servants in the state.

It was disclosed in a letter dated December 14 by his Head of Service, Bode Agoro.

Agoro stated that the Lagos State governor had approved the payment of an end-of-year bonus equal to 50% of the basic salary to all political appointees and public servants, including those working for the Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), and local governments and council development areas.

He noted that while the National Minimum Wage was being reviewed, Sanwo-Olu has furthermore approved the introduction of the Wage Award (PALLIATIVE).

Agoro added that the government will not impose any taxes on the wage award or the 50 percent December salary bonus.

The circular read: “As part of the present Administration’s continuous appreciation of the contributions of all Public Servants towards the advancement of the State and its unrelenting commitment to the welfare of its workforce, it is hereby notified for general information that Mr. Governor has graciously approved the payment of 50% of Basic Salary as End-of Year Bonus for all Political Appointees and Public Servants, including employees of Local Governments & Local Council Development Areas, Lagos State Universal Basic Educauon Board (LASUBEB) and Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC).

In the same vein, Governor Makinde approved a 13th-month salary for civil workers in the state ahead of 2024.

Makinde made the announcement at the 2023 Christmas Carol Service with the theme “Unto Us a Child is Born” held at the Remembrance Arcade of the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan, on Sunday night.

In a post made on his verified X account, he said, “Tonight, we celebrated the 2023 Festival of Carols and Nine Lessons under the theme ‘Unto Us a Child is Born.’ It provided us with another occasion to express gratitude to God for His mercies and faithfulness throughout this challenging year economically.”

The Oyo governor reassured the civil servants in state that, “Consistent with our practice since 2019, I want to assure the civil servants in Oyo State that, once again, we will be disbursing the 13th-month salary before the close of this year.”

Governor Makinde announced the Deccember salary bonus on Sunday night

It should be noted that Makinde’s administration has consistently implemented the 13th-month payment since 2019 to date.
