The Lagos Women Run (LWR), a 10km road race promoting women’s fitness and empowerment, will take place on November 9.
Organised by Gym Assured, Marathon & Road Race Organisation, in partnership with the Lagos State Government, the event aims to inspire women to adopt healthier lifestyles and raise awareness about critical social issues.
Since it started in 2016, the Lagos Women Run has grown in popularity, with organisers hoping to expand the event to other parts of Nigeria.
This year, over 200,000 women are expected to participate, united by a shared goal of promoting well-being and solidarity.
The race aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on issues such as poverty reduction, education for girls, hunger eradication, and gender equality.
Coordinator Tayo Popoola described the 2024 edition as “special,” explaining that there will be a week-long series of activities leading up to the race, addressing key issues affecting women. ” We are working with our sponsors to raise this event to higher level,” Popoola said.
Participants in the race will receive various benefits, including running vests, bibs, goody bags, medals, certificates, and products from sponsors.
The event serves as both a fitness initiative and a platform for women to raise their voices, fostering unity and social change across the continent.
