Lagos Shooting: Former Police Calls for Urgent Training

Lagos Shooting Former Police Calls for Urgent Training (News Central TV)

A former top man of the Nigerian Police Service queried why funds meant for the training of personnel are not being used for that purpose. Retired Deputy Inspector of Police and lawyer, Chijioke Nwobodo’s call come on the heels of the killing a pregnant lawyer and realtor in Ajah, Eti-Osa local government area in Lagos.

On Christmas Day, Bolanle Raheem was gunned down by a police officer attached to the Ajiwa police station. Bolanle and her husband, Gbenga Raheem were returning from church and spending family time together before the shooting at Ajah underbridge.

This is the second death in a month at the Ajah underbridge, where officers from the Ajiwa station mount road checks. It’s unclear what has happened since the killing of the first victim, Gafaru Braimo.

However, Nigerian authorities from the presidency to the state police have condemned the killings and assured justice for the lawyer’s family. The Nigerian Bar Association has also vowed to bring the culprit officer to justice.

Meanwhile, on Village Square Africa, the retired DIG said adequate training will help prevent more police killings from happening.
