Lagos Shuts Down Shopping Centre for Health Hazards

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) sealed off Orchid Shopping Centre’s premises along Orchid Road, Eti-Osa, on Friday for releasing wastewater onto the road and public drains, causing environmental nuisance and posing a risk to public health.

The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared a statement on X.com today, revealing this development.

Wahab warned individuals or organisations that discharge untreated wastewater and sewage into the environment to stop this practice or face penalties.

In accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, the property, owner(s), and occupiers will be subject to appropriate sanctions.

Wahab stressed that the Lagos State Government maintains a strict stance against environmental pollution and degradation.
