The Lagos State Government (LASG) has issued a warning about demolishing 280 illegal structures to prevent slum development, disruptions to the Lagos State Master Plan, and erosion of the state’s coastal areas.
In a statement titled ‘LASG ISSUES CONTRAVENTION NOTICES TO ILLEGAL OCCUPANTS OF MAYEGUN WATERFRONT SCHEME,’ Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development Ekundayo Alebiosu announced that notices have been sent to over 280 unauthorized property owners and occupants in the Mayegun Waterfront Scheme, located in the Eti Osa Local Government Area.
The contravention notices require occupants to present the necessary documentation and approvals for their properties within seven days. Failure to comply will result in a demolition notice.
The properties in question, including completed, under-construction, and undeveloped lands, were found to lack government authorization following a detailed technical assessment by the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development’s survey team.
Alebiosu urged property owners to either remove their structures voluntarily or regularize their documents to avoid penalties.
He warned that illegal activities along the Waterfront schemes and corridors must cease immediately, as the State Government will no longer tolerate encroachments on government properties, land, and setbacks.
He also highlighted that the Ministry is currently addressing similar encroachments at the Okun Ajah waterfront scheme and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting waterfront infrastructure and ensuring the safety of life and property along the state’s coastal areas.
