A new terrorist group, the Lakurawa, allegedly linked to ISIS in the Sahel, attacked Mera Community in Kebbi State, resulting in 15 fatalities.
The incident occurred on Friday near Mera, in the Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State, according to a BBC Hausa report monitored by News Central.
A local source informed BBC Hausa that the crisis began when members of the Lakurawa group encountered a herder and attempted to rustle his animals.
Details of the Incident
“The herder ran to the community and raised the alarm. Community members then marched to the location, where they confronted the terrorists, resulting in the deaths of 15 people and many others sustaining injuries.
“The locals succeeded in killing some of the terrorists and injuring others.
“But the surviving terrorists carried away their casualties and left the area.”
The Deputy Governor of Kebbi State paid a condolence visit to Mera, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police and the Emir of Argungu, the eyewitness reported.
Abdullahi Idris Zuru, a media aide to the Governor of Kebbi State, confirmed by phone on Saturday the presence of the terror group in parts of the state.
