The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully berthing the largest container carrier at the country’s newest seaport, the Lekki Deep Seaport. The vessel, named MAERSK EDIRNE, arrived in Nigeria’s territorial waters on January 21, 2024.

Key details of the MAERSK EDIRNE:

The vessel was safely navigated by the pilots of the NPA, marking a significant achievement for the Lekki Deep Seaport and reinforcing the NPA’s commitment to maximising Nigeria’s blue economy.

Mohammed Bello-Koko, the Managing Director and CEO of the NPA, expressed appreciation for the support and endorsement of the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola. Bello-Koko emphasised the NPA’s dedication to providing leadership and technical guidance to harness the potential of Nigeria’s marine and blue economy.

The berthing of MAERSK EDIRNE at Lekki Deep Seaport represents a notable advancement, surpassing previous records set by vessels such as “MV Stadelhorn” and “MSC Maureen” at Onne Port and Tin Can Island Port Complexes.
