The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reported that five persons have been confirmed dead after a building under construction collapsed in Lagos state.

The incident occurred at Arowojobe Estate in Maryland early Thursday morning.

According to LASEMA, all five victims were male construction workers.

The Agency earlier reported that a distress call about the collapse came through at 3:49 a.m. and a response team was promptly dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, they found that a three-terrace building had collapsed. The rescue operation began immediately, resulting in the recovery of three dead and two injured workers, with one additional worker rescued from the rubble.

The injured workers received on-site medical treatment, and the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit was contacted to handle the deceased.

A combined team from LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire Service, and the Nigeria Police worked together at the scene, using LASEMA’s excavator to speed up the search and rescue efforts.
