Due to the deteriorated condition of the asphalt pavement and expansion joints on the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge, the Lagos State Government (LASG) has announced that traffic will be diverted starting Monday, July 22, 2024, for emergency repairs.
According to a statement from the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repairs will be conducted in two phases over a period of 90 days.
The first phase of repairs will focus on the Ojota-bound lane, while the second phase will address the Yaba/Ojuelegba/Maryland-bound lane.
Alternative routes have been mapped out for each phase:
During the first phase, motorists heading to Ojota from Maryland/Yaba will be diverted into a counter flow on the lane inbound to Maryland. Motorists heading to Yaba from Ojota will continue on the same lane.
For an alternate route, motorists from Berger, Magodo, and Tollgate along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway are advised to go through the Alapere/Ogudu axis inward Gbagada/Anthony Oke Bridge, then descend the ramp to access Ikorodu Road.
Motorists coming from Ikeja, Oregun, and Kudirat Abiola Way should use the Opebi Link Bridge to connect to Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, then proceed through Sheraton and Maryland to access Ikorodu Road.
Motorists coming from Jibowu are advised to use the Ikorodu Road service lane by Mobil Fuel Station/Bertola Engineering Equipment Company to access the Gbagada/Ogudu axis.
Those who miss the turning by the Mobil Fuel Station and Bertola Engineering Equipment Company can use Theodolite to link to the Anthony Oke Ramp and rejoin Ikorodu Road, accessing Town Planning Way inward Gbagada/Ogudu/Alapere axis.
Motorists from Jibowu heading to Ikeja, Magodo, Berger, and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway can use Maryland inwards Mobolaji Bank Anthony, then link Sheraton/Opebi to Allen Avenue/Obafemi Awolowo Way, and access Nurudeen Olowopopo Road.
Alternatively, after using the Opebi Link Bridge, they can use Kudirat Abiola Way to access Ikosi Road inward Mobolaji Johnson Avenue/7up, then connect to Nurudeen Olowopopo Road.
During the second phase, motorists inward Maryland/Yaba from Ojota will be diverted into a counter flow on the lane inbound to Ojota. Motorists from Maryland will continue on the same lane.
For alternate routes, motorists traveling from Berger, Magodo, and Toll Gate can use the Alapere route towards Gbagada to access the Anthony Oke Ramp and then connect to Ikorodu Road.
Those coming from Ikorodu/Ketu can use the Ojota Ramp Bridge to link to Alapere and continue their journeys as outlined.
Motorists coming from Ikeja, Oregun, and Kudirat Abiola Way should use the Opebi Link Bridge towards Mobolaji Bank Anthony/Sheraton, then exit at Maryland to enter Ikorodu Road.
The alternative routes for motorists heading to Ikeja, Magodo, Berger, and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway from Jibowu during the first phase will also be applicable during the second phase of repairs.
The Commissioner assured that ample traffic management personnel will be deployed to handle the traffic situation, minimize disruptions, and ensure a smooth flow of traffic. He also appealed to residents and motorists to cooperate with the measures in place during the repair period.
