Patrik Schick’s crucial 71st-minute header secured Bayer Leverkusen a 2-1 victory against Union Berlin on Saturday, keeping them within seven points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.
Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong struck early in the second minute, but Union’s Jeong Woo-yeong equalised before halftime. Schick clinched the win by converting Florian Wirtz’s pinpoint cross, maintaining Leverkusen’s pursuit of the title.
RB Leipzig suffered a shocking 5-1 home defeat to Wolfsburg, marking their second consecutive league game conceding four or more goals. Wolfsburg stunned Leipzig with two goals in the first five minutes, courtesy of Mohamed Amoura and Tiago Tomas.
Amoura scored his second in the 16th minute, while Joakim Maehle and substitute Kevin Behrens piled on the misery. Leipzig’s Willi Orban managed a late consolation, but the defeat leaves the once-promising side winless in six matches and down to fourth place.
In contrast, Wolfsburg have surged to seventh, extending their unbeaten streak to five games under former Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhuettl.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Freiburg rebounded from their recent Dortmund thrashing with goals from Lucas Höler (2) and Ritsu Doan, overcoming Tim Kleindienst’s strike for Borussia Moenchengladbach. Meanwhile, Ermedin Demirović netted twice for Stuttgart as they clawed back twice to share the points with Werder Bremen.
Phillip Tietz’s first-half penalty handed Augsburg a narrow victory, leaving Bochum rooted to the bottom with just two points.
Leverkusen’s win puts pressure on Bayern, but their Klassiker result could further shift the dynamic in the title race. Meanwhile, Leipzig must regroup quickly to salvage their faltering campaign.
