Lewandowski Nets Double as Barcelona Thrash Young Boys 5-0

Robert Lewandowski scored twice as Barcelona cruised to a 5-0 victory over Swiss side Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday. The dominant win helped the Catalan club recover from their previous defeat to Monaco and boosted their goal difference.

Raphinha and Inigo Martinez were also on the scoresheet, while an own goal from Mohamed Camara completed the rout, giving Barcelona an emphatic response to recent disappointments in both the Champions League and La Liga.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick fielded his strongest available lineup following their loss to Monaco, and it paid off as Lewandowski opened the scoring after just eight minutes, latching onto Raphinha’s cross-shot. Raphinha then doubled the lead after a blocked shot fell into his path, and Martinez headed in the third from a Pedri free-kick.

Lewandowski secured his second of the night with a close-range header early in the second half, bringing his tally to nine goals in 10 games this season under his former Bayern Munich boss Flick.

Despite a chance for Young Boys when Joel Monteiro struck the crossbar, Barcelona remained in control. The victory was capped when Camara inadvertently deflected Alejandro Balde’s cross into his own net.

Barcelona fans were also treated to the return of Frenkie de Jong, who came on as a substitute for his first appearance since suffering an ankle injury in April.

With the win, Barcelona now look to build momentum in the Champions League and domestic competition, while a late offside decision denied Young Boys a consolation goal.
