Robert Lewandowski marked a historic milestone with his 100th Champions League goal, helping Barcelona to a 3-0 victory over Brest on Tuesday, propelling the Catalans to second place in their group.
The 36-year-old striker opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a clinical penalty after being fouled by Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot. This goal brought Lewandowski to 100 Champions League goals, becoming only the third player in history to reach this milestone, behind Lionel Messi (129) and Cristiano Ronaldo (140).
Lewandowski’s form under coach Hansi Flick has been remarkable this season, with 22 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions.
Despite missing teenage star Lamine Yamal due to injury, Barcelona dominated the match, with Raphinha particularly active on the right wing. Dani Olmo added a second goal in the 66th minute, finishing a tidy move following a pass from Gerard Martin.
Lewandowski sealed the victory with a second goal late in the match, rounding off a dominant display by the Spanish side.
Brest, who had been performing well in Ligue 1, were brought down to earth with their first defeat in the group stage. Although they had a brief moment of joy when Mathias Pereira Lage’s strike was ruled offside, they were unable to break down Barcelona’s defence.
Barcelona will now look to build on their solid performance as they aim to secure a spot in the last 16 of the Champions League. Their next fixture is away to Borussia Dortmund, followed by matches against Benfica and Atalanta.
