The Liberian government will allocate funds to three key areas comprising of healthcare, youth empowerment, and education through the 136 administrative districts in the country.
This was disclosed on Friday by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Jonathan Fonati Koffa, during an exclusive interview with the Managing Director and Editor-in Chief of pan-African Media company, News Central, Kayode Akintemi.
Koffa made the statement when asked what the current administration intends to do to guarantee that Liberia’s young population can see a future amidst the aftermath of the two civil wars.
“One of the things we think should have been is that there should be some money allocated to each district to deal with three major things, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment.” Koffa said.
The former Deputy Speaker responded to Akintemi saying if the government buys the legislature’s idea, some rehabilitation that is needed will be visible.
“What we have to look forward to from a legislature is to take the president’s agenda and put it under a microscope, then we pass the budget,” he earlier said.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) data says over 50 per cent of Liberians live below the poverty line with the inability to access sufficient food daily.
Speaker Koffa said the budget that would be passed would seek to provide jobs for the youth and give them hope in terms of a productive separate system.
