Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung has urged members of the South-South Cooperation Parliamentary Conference to promote economic cooperation among member states.
VP Koung stated that while it is critical to recognise the importance of collaboration among nations in the Global South as a powerful avenue for addressing the economic challenges faced by developing countries, concrete actions are required to turn visions of South-South cooperation into reality and improve the livelihoods of people in that region.
Addressing members of the Parliament Conference on South-South Cooperation in Rabat, Morocco, Vice President Koung emphasised that the concept of South-South Cooperation arose from the recognition that mutual interests and endeavours are inextricably linked, compelling nations to work closely together to achieve shared goals.
VP Koung furthered, “As we navigate the economic landscape of the 21st Century, it is imperious that South-South cooperation transcends mere rhetoric and transforms into tangible actions. Our focus must shift towards facilitating the exchange of resources, technology, and knowledge to promote trade and foster economic cooperation.”
The Liberian Vice President then reminded the audience that Liberia, guided by a foreign policy based on collaboration and mutual cooperation, has consistently advocated for South-South dialogue, stating that joint collaborations serve national interests best, and committing to forging strong political and economic ties with fellow developing countries.
He also praised the Moroccan government’s efforts to establish strategic partnerships, political discussion, and international integration.
“South-South Cooperation holds immense potential as a catalyst for political consolidation, peace, and security. “We can reduce transaction costs, eliminate trade barriers, and deepen integration within our regions by encouraging cross-border investment and trade,” said VP Koung.
Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung presented Liberia’s platform at the Parliamentary Conference, urging lawmakers to engage emergent and non-traditional partners in the pursuit for economic and social development.
He stated that Liberia exemplifies the transformative force of South-South dynamics, calling it Africa’s beacon of democracy.
VP Koung urged global partners and governments from Africa, the Arab World, and Latin America to grab new opportunities and commit to collaborations that foster equitable growth.
