A military parade was staged on Tuesday in Tripoli’s Martyr’s Square to commemorate the 82nd anniversary of the creation of the Libyan Army.

A military force linked to the Government of National Unity marched by during the ceremony, which was place at Tripoli’s Martyrs Square.

Lieutenant General Mohammad Al-Haddad, the Chief of Staff, spoke at the ceremony and emphasized the importance of working together to address Libya’s difficulties.

The march coincided with one held in the city of Misrata by the opposing administration, led by Fathi Bashagha.

The event takes place as the Libyan people work to unify the country’s long-divided military system.

Political leaders from around the world and locally supported the efforts to unite the Libyan military institution at the time.

The Libyan resistance groups that had moved to Giza, Egypt, to support British forces in their conflict with the Italians, proclaimed the creation of the Libyan army on August 9, 1940.

Following Libya’s independence in 1951, the army underwent a restructuring.
