Ojude Oba (News Central TV)

Ojude Oba is a significant event for the Yoruba people, particularly the Ijebu community in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria.

Held annually two days after Eid-El-Kabir, this celebration showcases the unity, heritage, and traditions of the Ijebu people.

The festival, reinvented and internationalised by Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, features colourful parades, traditional dances, and homage paid by over 100 age-grade groups (Regberegbes) to the Awujale.

News Central reports that the theme for the 2024 edition, “OJUDE OBA: Unity and Harmony, Our Gifts,” underscores the festival’s emphasis on communal harmony and cultural pride.

The 2024 Ojude Oba festival will be graced by numerous dignitaries such as Vice President Kashim Shettima as the special guest of honour. Other notable attendees include Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and the Minister of Culture, Art, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa-Musawa.
