Inter Miami star Lionel Messi’s €11 million mansion in Ibiza has been vandalised by climate activist group Futuro Vegetal.

The activists broke into the property, painted it red and black, and shared photos on social media. They held a banner reading “Help the planet, eat the rich, abolish the police,” criticising government policies that they believe worsen the climate crisis.

Futuro Vegetal explained that Messi’s mansion is an illegal construction, adding that the Balearic Islands have suffered deaths due to the heat wave.

The group stated that the richest 1% are responsible for the same amount of carbon emissions as the poorest two-thirds, due to public authorities supporting an economic system that threatens life. They called for a radical change to address social inequality and the climate crisis.

“We tinted Messi’s illegal mansion in Ibiza. The Mansion is an illegal construction that the footballer acquired for the exorbitant sum of 11 million euros. While this is happening, in the Balearic Islands alone between 2 and 4 people have died as a direct consequence of the heat wave.

“The richest 1% of the population is responsible for the same amount of carbon emissions as the poorest two-thirds. This is only possible because public authorities support an economic-social system that threatens life. While the far right blames migrants for the crisis and displays extreme violence against them, those of us who fight for a better world are clear that the problem is social inequality.

“Let’s tackle the problems at the root. We need a radical change of system to face the Climate Crisis,” they wrote on X.

The protesters were seen in Messi’s garden, spray painting walls and holding signs. Messi, who bought the property in 2022, has not responded to the incident.

The football star is currently on holiday after helping Argentina retain the Copa America, enjoying time with his family.
