A 27th-minute tap-in from Darwin Nunez secured Liverpool a 1-0 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday, maintaining their impressive form under new manager Arne Slot. Nunez’s first Champions League goal since February proved decisive as the Reds controlled much of the match, despite a late surge from the German side.

Liverpool weathered some early pressure from Leipzig before Mohamed Salah’s header across goal set up Nunez for a simple finish. The Uruguayan striker pounced to grab his second goal of the season, continuing the Reds’ dominance in both domestic and European competition.

“We’re really happy for the win. We played a difficult away game. We controlled the game in large parts apart from the last few minutes,” said Slot, who has overseen 11 wins in 12 games in all competitions—making the best start of any Liverpool manager.

Leipzig, now winless in three Champions League games, had chances of their own. Forward Lois Openda had a stunning long-range effort ruled out for offside just before Nunez’s opener, and Peter Gulacsi kept the hosts in the game with a fine save from Nunez shortly after the goal.

The second half saw Liverpool manage the match, mindful of their upcoming clash against Premier League title rivals Arsenal on Sunday. Salah, visibly frustrated when subbed off with half an hour remaining, made way as Slot looked to protect key players for the weekend fixture.

Leipzig pressed hard in the final minutes, with another Openda strike ruled offside, but Liverpool’s defence held firm to continue their flawless start in Europe.
