Liverpool maintained their position at the top of the Premier League after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, Arsenal and Manchester City came from behind to win their respective matches on Saturday.
Manchester City emerged as 3-2 winners against Fulham, staying just one point behind Liverpool, while Arsenal also earned a 3-1 victory over Southampton.
While Liverpool manager Arne Slot has won nine out of his first ten games since taking over from Jurgen Klopp, he expressed frustration at his team’s invitation to a late onslaught from Crystal Palace, who have yet to secure a win.
Jota scored Liverpool’s only goal of the match in the ninth minute from Cody Gakpo’s cross. Despite having opportunities to extend their lead, they failed to capitalise.
However, Liverpool’s victory came at a cost, as goalkeeper Alisson Becker left the pitch with a hamstring injury.
Arsenal Fight Back to Exorcise Saints
From a dominant win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, Arsenal faced winless Southampton and had to mount a fightback to prevent a major upset at the Emirates.
Southampton forward Cameron Archer put the visitors ahead ten minutes after the resumption, but Arsenal replied barely three minutes later through Kai Havertz. It was one-way traffic from then as Gabriel Martinelli finished Saka’s pass before the English man sealed the game with two minutes left of normal time.
Manchester City are still reeling from Rodri’s season-long absence due to a serious knee injury. Still, his stand-in Mateo Kovacic scored twice to lead City to a 3-2 victory over Fulham.
West Ham eased the pressure on their new boss by securing a 4-1 win over Ipswich, who are still waiting for their first Premier League win in 22 years, while Leicester secured their first league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth.
