Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been charged with abusing match officials during Wednesday’s tempestuous Merseyside derby at Everton.
Slot received a red card after approaching referee Michael Oliver in a heated confrontation on the pitch following the 2-2 tie.
Liverpool were enraged after James Tarkowski’s stoppage-time equaliser was not overturned due to an alleged push by Everton striker Beto on Reds defender Ibrahima Konate.
Slot’s assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, was also fired during the altercation with Oliver in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park before Everton move to a new stadium next season.
According to the Football Association, Slot reportedly engaged in “an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had finished.”
After the final whistle, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones and Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure were both sent off, with Jones aggressively hitting Doucoure after he celebrated in front of Liverpool fans.

Both clubs have also been charged with “their players and/or technical area occupants behaving in an inappropriate and/or provocative manner following the final whistle.”
Slot, Hulshoff, Liverpool, and Everton have until Wednesday to respond, so the Reds manager will be allowed to sit on the bench for Sunday’s Premier League leaders’ game against Wolves at Anfield.
Earlier on Friday, Slot admitted that he made a mistake with his actions because he became caught up in the angry environment at Goodison Park.
“My emotions got the best of me. If I could go back, I would do it differently, and I hope to do it differently the next time,” he told reporters.
“I should have acted differently after the game, but it’s an emotional sport, and sometimes individuals make wrong decisions, and that’s definitely what I did.”
Everton manager David Moyes said on Friday he respected Slot’s angry outbursts because he was battling to preserve his team.
“I feel for Arne Slot. “When I was a younger manager, I was always getting involved in heated situations,” he admitted.
“It also shows that he cares deeply about his club and is fighting for his players.” As we grow older, we may reflect on our actions and wonder what we were doing. I’ve had several regrettable situations and experiences. But we all have to fight our own battles.”
