Nigerian actress and media personality Omotunde Adebowale-David, popularly known as Lolo1, has called for stricter regulation of social media in the country.
Lolo1, who is one of the hosts of News Central TV’s Jasiri show, expressed concerns about the unchecked activities of certain individuals online.
“We need some level of control on social media. I know a lot of people might not understand, but I’m an advocate for some kind of control,” she said during the show on Tuesday.
She argued that social media platforms have become a space for charlatans to promote harmful practices.

She specifically mentioned the rise in ritual-related crimes, highlighting how some perpetrators claimed they were influenced by content from self-proclaimed spiritual figures on platforms like TikTok.
According to her, some of these online figures openly advertise voodoo practices, including rituals to attract romantic partners, which she believes can mislead and manipulate vulnerable people.
“Do you know all these charlatans are parading themselves on social media? Most of the boys that have been caught in ritual killings in recent times would tell you they saw this voodoo man from TikTok advertising their wares, telling people to come and do waist beads to entrap husbands and men blatantly,” she said.
While acknowledging that her stance might not be widely accepted, Lolo1 maintained that some form of regulation is necessary to protect society from harmful influences spreading through digital platforms.
