Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, Zambia’s Barbra Banda, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams were among the standout winners at the 2024 CAF Awards held in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday.
Lookman clinched the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award after an exceptional year with Atalanta and the Super Eagles, marking back-to-back Nigerian winners following Victor Osimhen’s triumph in 2023.
Barbra Banda’s record-breaking performances, including a historic hat trick at the Paris Olympics and leading Orlando Pride to the NWSL Championship, earned her the Women’s Player of the Year award.
Williams secured Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year and Interclub Player of the Year awards, celebrated for his heroic penalty saves at AFCON 2023 and stellar performances for Mamelodi Sundowns.
Other notable winners included the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie; Young Players of the Year, Lamine Camara (Senegal) and Doha El Madani (Morocco); Coaches of the Year, Emerse Fae (Cote d’Ivoire) and Lamia Boumehdi (DR Congo); National Teams of the Year, Nigeria’s Super Falcons and Cote d’Ivoire’s men’s team.
The awards night celebrated African football’s continued growth, highlighting remarkable talents and achievements across the continent.
