Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman has been awarded the UEFA Europa League Player of the Week following his stellar performance for Atalanta.
Lookman stood out in Atalanta’s 3-0 triumph over Olympic Marseille, earning his first Player of the Week honour this season.
The 29-year-old played a vital role in his team’s victory, scoring one goal and providing one assist during the match at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.
The Super Eagles star, who previously excelled at AFCON 2023, set up Matteo Ruggeri to secure a 2-0 lead in the second half as Atalanta asserted control over the game.
The winger’s outstanding display on the field edged out tough competition from Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar, who made 12 saves against Bayer Leverkusen, to clinch the prestigious Player of the Week title.
This achievement marks a remarkable season for Lookman in Italy, with the talented winger contributing to 20 goals and assists across all competitions for the Serie A club.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad, led by Lookman, will now face fellow Nigerians Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella of Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final in Dublin on May 22nd.
Given his current form, Lookman is set to be one of Atalanta’s key threats as they aim to secure their maiden Europa League title against the German outfit.
