In a much-anticipated move, former Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has officially signed with Inter Miami for the 2024 season, paving the way for a reunion with longtime teammate Lionel Messi.
Suarez and Messi enjoyed a successful six-season stint at Barcelona, securing four Spanish league titles and nine additional trophies, including a Champions League title. Suarez’s recent standout performance as the best player and striker in the Brazilian league with Gremio adds to the anticipation surrounding his arrival at Inter Miami.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Suarez stated, “I’m very happy and excited to take on this new challenge with Inter Miami,” Suarez said. “I can’t wait to get started, and I’m ready to work to make the dream of winning more titles with this great club a reality. I’m optimistic about what we can achieve together with our shared ambition.”
Speculation about Suarez joining Inter Miami had been circulating for months, fueled by his strong relationship with Messi. Inter Miami, which claimed its first trophy, the Leagues Cup, last season shortly after Messi’s arrival, has undergone a significant transformation, bringing in elite talent such as Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, along with coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino.
Busquets and Alba, who also played alongside Messi at Barcelona, and Martino, a former Barcelona coach, now welcome Suarez to the team.
“I will give my all to bring joy to these great fans I’ve heard so much about while I wear Inter Miami colors and look forward to reuniting with great friends and players,” Suarez expressed. “I’m also eager to meet my new teammates and coaches.”
