Lukaku Inspires Napoli to 3-1 Win Over Como to Retain Serie A Top Spot

Romelu Lukaku continued his stellar form for Napoli, scoring one goal and assisting two in their 3-1 victory over Como on Friday, ensuring Napoli’s hold on the Serie A top spot for another week.

Belgian striker Lukaku set up Scott McTominay for his first Serie A goal just 25 seconds into the match. He then netted from the penalty spot seven minutes into the second half and assisted David Neres for Napoli’s third goal in the 86th minute. The win extended Napoli’s lead in the league to four points.

Juventus could close the gap with a home win against Cagliari on Sunday.

Lukaku has adapted quickly to life under Antonio Conte, scoring three goals and providing four assists in his first five league appearances for a Napoli side that looks capable of challenging for the title.

Napoli faced stiff opposition from newly-promoted Como, who levelled the score through a stunning long-range strike from Gabriel Strefezza after Nico Paz struck the woodwork. However, Neres secured the win with a late goal after a brilliant pass from Lukaku.

McTominay, who joined Napoli from Manchester United this summer, has been a standout player for the team. The Scottish midfielder lashed in his second goal for the club, having also scored in the Italian Cup last month.

Napoli are unbeaten since their opening-day defeat to Verona, who won 2-1 against Venezia in Friday’s late match. Under Conte, Napoli have rediscovered their form, resembling the team that won the Scudetto in 2023.

Despite the loss, Como sit 10th in the league, with eight points in their first Serie A season in 21 years, backed by Indonesian tobacco giants Djarum.
