Ofwono Opondo, the spokesman for the Ugandan Government, has expressed fears for his life after some machete-wielding thugs raided his home in Mukono.
Fortunately, Opondo was at a late-night talk show when the hoodlums attacked his home on Thursday.
After receiving information of the attack at the talk show, Opondo tweeted, “For now, I have lost contact with members of my family reported to be under attack by unknown people.”
The spokesperson claims that the unknown assailants gained access to his bedroom and compound, adding that a few items including money had been taken.
“ The [assailants] reportedly forced my wife and three daughters into another room,” Opondo tweeted.
On Friday, Opondo said he is afraid for his life and that of the members of his family.
He alleged that opposition politicians may have been involved in the incident.
Jane Nalukwago, the wife to Opondo, said the thugs used the main gate which did not have guards and was only locked with a padlock.
“We were in the sitting room watching TV, we only saw the men telling us if we wanted to remain alive, we stay silent,” Nalukwago said in a report.
One of the thugs who looked to be the youngest and most violent asked them to kneel down and handover all their phones while the other thugs checked the entire house.
Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said about sh30,000 and a small phone were taken by the thugs.
