Madagascar Makes U-turn on COVAX Vaccine Initiative

Madagascar has switched its stance on not being a part of the global vaccine initiative (COVAX) after reconsidering its previous COVID-19 organics.

Minister of Public Health, Prof Jean Luis Rakotovao in a message on Facebook said the country will join the COVAX facility in order to benefit from the vaccines given to African countries.

A number of African countries have received the first round of the COVID-19 vaccines with more expected in the coming weeks.

The Madagascan government had in the past claimed it will not be a part of the initiative as its tea pill will help cure COVID-19.

The World Health Organisation had dismissed the COVID-19 organics because it lacked enough proof of being a therapeutic end to COVID-19.

The WHO is yet to find a cure for the virus which has killed millions in the world after a year of its presence.
