It was an impressive and eventful weekend for Nigerians in Europe as the trio of Terem Moffi, Moses Simon and Josh Maja all registered their names on the scoresheet.
Moffi scored a brace against Monaco to keep his Lorient side just above relegation waters in the French Ligue 1.
The 21-year old striker, who now has 8 goals from his last 9 games scored from the spot in the first half before driving past Monaco defenders to add a second against the Municipality side which also had Senegalese, Krepin Diatta on.
Also in the French league, Moses Simon grabbed a goal for Nantes as they ended a 15-game winless run. Nantes’ 3-1 win against Angers ensured they now sit 18th, with a relegation battle on their hands.
In the Premier League, Josh Maja became the first Nigerian since Efan Ekoku in 1993 to score a brace on his Premier League debut.
Maja, on loan from Bordeaux to Fulham, scored his first goal in the 48th minute courtesy of an assist by his compatriot, Ola Aina. He added a second on the 65th minute to condemn the Toffees to a home defeat for the first time in 28 attempts. Fulham, who have so far been impressive after a terrible start to their season, now sit seven points above the drop.
